Why Eucalyptus Oil to Treat Toenail Fungus?
With its origins in Australia, eucalyptus oil has been used for decades to treat a variety of skin care infections. It is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, and is so makes it a very effective natural remedy to treat toenail fungus.
Another reason why eucalyptus oil is so effective in treating nail fungus is because of its ability to blend well with other antifungal essential oils. On its own, eucalyptus oil is extremely potent and must be diluted before it is applied directly on the skin. So to make this treatment effective, you’ll need to dilute the eucalyptus oil in a carrier oil like olive oil or sunflower oil.
How To Apply Eucalyptus Oil for Toenail Fungus?
To apply the eucalyptus oil to your toe, you will need a few drops of olive oil and a cotton ball.
- Mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil with the olive oil and soak the cotton ball in the mixture. Now gently press the cotton ball on the affected toenail and allow the oil to soak in underneath the nail.
- Repeat this action at least 3-4 times a day for the best results.
You can even use eucalyptus oil to create a foot soak.
- Simply throw in a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a bucket of warm water and add some epsom salts to the solution. You won’t need a carrier oil as the water will dilute the potency of the eucalyptus oil.
- Mix this solution with your hand till the salt dissolves and soak your foot in the mix for at least 15 minutes. Soak your foot at least twice a day to get rid of the toenail fungus quickly.
Be sure to clip your nails and shorten them as much as possible without hurting yourself. This way, whether you soak your foot or apply the oil directly, the solution will seep into the nail bed beneath the nail and work effectively on the fungus.
Why Is It So Effective?
For starters, eucalyptus oil is a strong antiseptic and prevents the growth of bacteria and fungus in its presence. Besides this, the oil also attacks harmful fungus and bacteria and kills them, helping to rid your toe of infections.
Nail fungus tends to affect parts of the body where blood flow is limited; the toes and tips of your fingers. Eucalyptus oil helps to stimulate blood flow to various areas of the body. So by applying it to your toenail, you enhance blood flow to the area, helping your body to effectively fight off the infection.
Before you apply eucalyptus oil anywhere, be sure to check for any allergic reactions that your skin may have to this ingredient. There are a host of essential oils out there to help treat nail fungus, and though they may not be as potent as eucalyptus oil, they’ll do the trick.
